11 Indian cricketers have been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame so far.
The ICC Hall of Fame is an achievement honoring the legends of the game who have had an illustrious career in this sport. It was introduced for the very first time by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on January 2, 2009.
Over the years, many cricketing legends in men’s and women’s cricket were inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. There have been multiple Indian greats who were honored with this award.
From India’s first World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev to Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, a few others have received this prestigious honor. In this article, we will talk about the complete list of Indian cricketers to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
List of all Indian cricketers to get inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame
1. BISHAN SINGH BEDDI
One of India’s finest spinners to represent the country, Bishan Singh Bedi was part of the country’s prominent spin quartet in the late 1960s and 1970s. He had a glorious career which ended with 1560 wickets at the First-Class level.
Bedi played 67 tests for India and took 266 wickets at an average of 28.71, with 14 fifers. In 10 ODIs, he scalped seven wickets. He was one of the first Indians to achieve this honor.
2. Sunil Gavaskar
India’s original Little Master, Sunil Gavaskar, was one of the best opening batters that the game has ever seen. His solid technique and impactful play at front and backfoot helped him to get success across the globe.
He was the first player to reach the 10,000-run mark in test cricket. Gavaskar was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2009. He played 125 tests and scored 10,122 runs at an average of 51.12 and 34 centuries.
3. Kapil Dev
India winning the 1983 Cricket World Cup is one of those moments that changed Indian cricket forever. That moment came under the leadership of Kapil Dev, who was regarded as one of the best all-rounders of his era.
Kapil played 131 tests and 225 ODIs, taking 434 and 253 wickets respectively. He also scored 5248 test and 3783 ODI runs. Kapil was the third Indian cricketer to get inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
4. Anil Kumble
Anil Kumble retired with the most international wickets for India in the game. Not known for turning the ball, Kumble relied on his variation and accuracy, which earned him success not just at home but in away games as well.
Kumble was only the third bowler to take 600+ wickets in tests. Kumble, who retired with 619 test and 337 ODI wickets, was the fourth Indian cricketer to get inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, and is one of the three bowlers to take ten wickets in an innings in a test match.
5. Rahul Dravid
Famously known as “The Wall,” Rahul Dravid was one of India’s greats to have played the game. He was one of the few cricketers to reach the 10000-run mark in both tests and ODIs.
Dravid was one of the most classical batters that India produced. He retired with 13,288 runs in 164 tests and 10,889 in 344 ODIs, with 48 international centuries. He was the fifth Indian cricketer to get inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
6. Sachin Tendulkar
Not just for a certain era, but Sachin Tendulkar was India’s greatest batter of all time. Even after more than a decade of his retirement, he still sits at the top of many batting records in history.
Sachin played 664 international games and scored 34,357 runs, with 100 centuries and 164 half-centuries. These numbers are the best in the game’s history.
7. Vinoo farad
Mulvantrai Himmatlal Mankad, affectionately known as Vinoo Mankad, was one of India’s best all-rounders to have played the game. 782 wickets and 11591 runs in 233 First-Class (FC) cricket games are a very rare combination, and he was able to achieve that.
He played 44 tests and took 162 wickets and scored 2109 runs. The Vinoo Mankad Trophy, which is India’s prominent U-19 One-Day Cup, is named after him. Mankad was seventh Indian cricketer to get inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
8. Diana Edulji
Diana Edulji was the first Indian women’s cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. She had a massive stature in India’s women’s cricket and is one of the few women’s cricketers to have played 20 or more WTests.
Diana retired with the most wickets by an Indian and the third-most wickets in women’s test cricket. She played 20 WTests and 34 WODIs and took 63 and 46 wickets respectively.
9. Virender Sehwag
India have produced many batting legends in the game, but Virender Sehwag was the first Indian batter to hit a triple century in test cricket. He is still one of the four players to have scored two triple tons in tests. Sehwag was ahead of his time, and his ability to take down the opposition made him a dangerous batter.
His strike rate of 82.23 is the best for batters to face 1000 or more balls in tests. Sehwag retired with 8586 Test and 8273 ODI runs and 38 international centuries. He was the ninth Indian cricketer to get inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
10. Neetu David
Neetu Larence David is a former women’s cricketer from India, who used to bowl left-arm spinner. She played cricket for India between 1995 and 2008. She is one of the youngest women cricketers to take a fifer in tests.
Her career best of 8/53 against England Women in 1995 are still the best figures by a bowler in women’s test cricket. Neetu played 10 tests and 97 ODIs and took 41 and 141 wickets respectively. She was the second women’s cricketer and 10th overall Indian cricketer to get inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
11. MS Dont
Probably India’s best captain of all time MS Dhoni is the latest inductee to the ICC Hall of Fame. Dhoni was only the second captain after Kapil Dev to lead India to a World Cup title. In fact, he is the only captain ever to win three different ICC white-ball titles – the ICC T20 World Cup 2007, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, and the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.
Having played his last international match during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, Dhoni announced his formal retirement from international cricket in August 2020. He played 90 tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20Is for India, scoring 4876, 10773, and 1617 runs respectively.
