The Best Movies And TV Shows Arriving On Hulu September 2024
The Die Hard Franchise
While there are a lot of new projects debuting on Hulu this month, September also brings a number of classic movies, including one of the most beloved action franchises of all time. All five Die Hard movies will debut on Netflix on September 1. The first installment not only made Bruce Willis a star, but it also became one of the most iconic action movies, inspiring many that followed and kicking off the “Die Hard on a” trend of action flicks in the 1990s.
John McClane’s adventures on the big screen might never have topped the high bar of the original, but the Die Hard movies all offer varying degrees of fun, with the underrated third entry being one of the best action movies of the 90s. With Willis retired from the business, it is enjoyable to look back on his amazing legacy in his most famous role.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: Complete Season 25
With the streaming world taking over television, there are a lot of fans who choose not to watch network shows as they air their episodes weekly and instead wait until the entire season is available on streaming. One such option that will be popular on Hulu this month is the complete season 25 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit coming on September 3.
While the Law & Order franchise is iconic, Special Victims Unit has become the most popular spinoff, even outlasting the original series which was eventually canceled. The show is not for the faint of heart as it deals with deeply disturbing subject matter, yet continues to be riveting after decades on the air. Season 25 of the series didn’t falter from the formula that has worked so well but has still not grown stale.
English Teacher – Series Premiere
While Hulu already has the critically acclaimed Abbott Elementary, another school-based series that looks at the misadventures of teaching comes to Hulu on September 3. English Teacher was created by actor and comedian Brian Jordan Alvarez who also stars in the series as a passionate teacher who is often frustrated by the red tape of his job which he feels prevents him from being his true, inspiring self.
The show examines the modern classroom and how children of this generation come with their own unique challenges and quirks. The series also features a fun cast of supporting characters who range from an overly optimistic teaching associate, a gruff and politically incorrect coach, and a principal just trying to avoid any headaches at all. The new series could prove to be the next comedy hit for Hulu.
The Old Man – Season 2
Following a long delay, the action thriller series The Old Man returns on September 13 for its second season. Jeff Bridges stars in the show as Dan Chase, a former CIA agent who has to come out of hiding when he is targeted by his old associates. Season 1 found Dan on the run from his former friend and fellow spy Harper (John Lithgow), with Angela (Alia Shawkat), a surrogate daughter of both men, stuck in the middle.
The second season of the show promises the exciting development of Dan and Harper teaming up when Angela is taken by her real father, a dangerous terrorist. While the first season was a fun and thrilling ride, the idea of seeing Bridges and Lithgow working together more directly is a lot more exciting. The show will also continue to deliver some excellent action sequences with Bridges still convincing as the star.
American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez
Ryan Murphy has found a lot of success with his collection of “American” anthology series. Following American Horror Story, there was American Crime Story. Murphy now returns with the first entry in his anthology American Sports Story, premiering on Hulu on September 18. The show will look at a new controversial and drama-filled true story from the world of sports that gripped the attention of the American public.
The first season of the show will focus on the scandalous rise and fall of Aaron Hernandez, one of the wildest personalities in football. Hernandez was a tight end who proved to be a dominating player for the New England Patriots until he was arrested for murder in 2013. Josh Andrés Rivera (West Side Story) stars as Hernandez in the story that will examine his complicated background, his illegal activity, and how the injuries he sustained in his football career were linked to his crimes.
High Potential
Kaitlin Olson already has an iconic television role thanks to her hilarious performance as Dee Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. However, the comedic actor looks to add more hits to her roster with an exciting new crime comedy series High Potential, starting on September 18. Based on a French series called HPI, High Potential stars Olson as a struggling single mother with a high IQ who becomes an unexpected asset to police, helping them solve crimes.
Olson is a terrific and energetic performer, making her a very fun choice for this kind of eccentric detective role, like Columbo or Sherlock Holmes. Another exciting element is Drew Goddard serving as the show’s creator. Goddard’s past television work includes Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lost, and Daredevil, so his return to the small screen is sure to get people excited.
Bob’s Burgers: Season 15 Premiere
September is the month that sees a lot of popular shows returning to network television and Hulu will feature the premiere of several of their affiliated shows. One of the most anticipated returns is Bob’s Burgers, which has gone from the underdog show on Fox’s “Animation Domination” to becoming the most popular of the series. Now the show makes its return for season 15 with its premiere on September 30.
The series follows the lovable and dysfunctional Belcher family as they run their small yet charming burger joint. The show is a funny animated sitcom that is filled with laughs, but spending time with these colorful characters has become a big part of the show’s reveals. Along with Bob’s Burgers season 15 premiering, September 30 will also see the premiere of Fox’s animated shows, Krapopolis for season 2 and The Simpsons for season 36.
