No matter what happened throughout the course of the show, knowledge of his existence would have to somehow be hidden from the Jedi in order to preserve their surprise at discovering Darth Maul in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

This is exactly what happens in the finale of the series, with Vernestra Rwoh blaming every death on Master Sol in an attempt to keep things contained. With the Jedi safe from the knowledge that the Sith threat is very much alive, it allows for the inaction that their uncertainty about the Sith resurgence prompted, leading to the death of Qui-Gon Jinn. Now that the series has finished, the fears that this story of the Sith breaks canon can safely be set aside.

The Acolyte Was Considered “Woke” For Its Diversity

Some Took Issue With The Show’s Casting Decisions

The Acolyte follows a wide set of characters, ranging from staunch Jedi to potential Sith. One thing to note is that there is more diversity in the cast playing these characters than ever before, with a non-binary Black actor playing the lead role. Similar to the fan reaction to Ki-Adi Mundi’s birthday change from Star Wars Legends, there are many minor dialogue or plot moments in the show that have sparked fan discussion. This happens a couple of times, with both of the more recent and notable instances surrounding the show’s main characters, Osha and Mae.

For one, when Mae is speaking with Sol on his ship, she tells him to go to hell, a concept that many consider to be foreign in a world where the Force is the primary religious concept. Another instance occurs when Osha causes Sol’s lightsaber to bleed, a process that in the comics takes much more time and effort than what is shown in The Acolyte. The Acolyte’s Cancelation Led To A Campaign To Get Season 2

Fans Were Upset By The Choice To Cancel The Show

Despite The Acolyte season 2 clearly being the path ahead following The Acolyte‘s ending, and the cast and crew themselves openly hoping for such an opportunity, The Acolyte has ultimately been canceled and therefore has not been renewed for season 2. Utter chaos followed this decision, with part of the Star Wars fandom celebrating while another part not only grieved, but also mobilized. These fans, angered by Disney and Lucasfilm’s choice to seemingly give in to the hate and give up on the show, channeled their anger and frustration into action by creating a campaign.

This campaign caused #RenewTheAcolyte to trend on Twitter/X on several different occasions. At the time of writing, this campaign has amassed upwards of 74,900 signatures on Change.org – leaving it just 100 shy of reaching 75,000. In response, fans who agree with the decision to stop the show have created their own campaigns that call for The Acolyte to remain canceled. Not-so-shockingly, the Star Wars fandom isn’t in agreement on this one, and it has even continued to lead to further division amongst fans as time has gone on.

The Star Wars Fandom Divided Again Three Weeks After The Acolyte’s Cancelation

There Is Now A “Star Wars Civil War”

The tensions that have surmounted over the course of The Acolyte‘s release reached a head with its cancelation, spurring what quickly became a “civil war” within the Star Wars fandom. The behavior of several fans surrounding The Acolyte, YouTube content creators in this case, led to an anonymous source creating an open letter directed at Team YouTube that called for the demonetization of three different YouTube channels citing racist remarks made about the show’s cast, particularly Amandla Stenberg. The channel Star Wars Theory (SWT) was referenced, though it was not one of the aforementioned three channels.

This open letter was shared by content creators, fans, and more across Twitter/X, including one half of the popular YouTube duo Star Wars Explained (SWE). Upset by both the reference to his channel in this letter and SWE’s participation in spreading it around, SWT made a YouTube video in which he responded to SWE’s actions. As a result, fans began to take sides, with some rushing to SWE’s defense while others joined SWT in calling them out. All of this has spun out of The Acolyte‘s cancelation, which proves just how turbulent this show’s release has truly been.
