10 Unanswered Questions After Crisis on Infinite Earths Now That The Arrowverse Is Officially Ending

The Arrowverse‘s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover may have concluded five years ago, but there are still a lot of lingering questions that went unanswered. For years, the Arrowverse was delivering one of the absolute best DC Universes available, with several heroes each leading their own series, and occasionally meeting up to take down the biggest threats to their unique universes. However, the Arrowverse couldn’t last forever, and when the DCU was announced, the shows began winding down and wrapping up.

However, one of the best elements from the Arrowverse was the crossover events, with each show contributing an episode that would further a joint story, and all the heroes teaming up. The last major team up of this kind was the Crisis on Infinite Earths run, which aired at the end of 2019 and concluded in January 2020. This event was huge, and it featured cameos from all throughout the history of DC TV and film. But, even after the story ended, there were some details that felt like they were left hanging in the air with no clear resolution.

10 Is The Spectre Gone For Good?

Early on in Crisis, Oliver Queen sacrifices his life for his friends. His death is heartbreaking, and losing the character who first popularized and built the foundation for the Arrowverse was a huge blow. However, the show implemented a clever workaround to give Oliver Queen another shot at being the hero, despite his fateful demise. In the afterlife, Oliver is approached by a person who introduces themselves as the Spectre. They tell Oliver his work isn’t over, and it’s his turn to take on the mantle of Spectre and fight the Anti-Monitor.

9 How Ezra Miller’s Flash Appeared In Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 4?

The DCEU Flash and the Arrowverse Flash meet in Crisis Episode of Arrow

In Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 4, Barry Allen is given the speed he needs to access the Speed Force even though all the rest of the multiverse has been destroyed. However, when he first arrives, he encounters another version of Barry Allen that will be very familiar to fans of the DCEU. Ezra Miller’s Flash has a fun and intriguing interaction with Grant Gustin, seemingly connecting the world of the DCEU with the Arrowverse, but it feels like it should never have been possible.

Earlier in the crossover event, several other notable cameos are included, showcasing the vast array of worlds from DC. But, all of these other worlds were already destroyed when Barry meets DCEU Flash. Does this mean that the DCEU universe is beyond the multiverse seen in the Arrowverse, or was it something to do with being outside time and space in the Speed Force? Either way, it seems complicated, and kind of like a plot hole.

8 Which Green Lantern Was Teased In Part 5?

At the conclusion of Crisis on Infinite Earths, the show teased some elements that were expected to be introduced in the near future. At the time, a Green Lantern show was in the works, and expected to add to the already significant list of shows from DC. However, the Arrowverse used what appears to be footage from the 2011 Green Lantern movie starring Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan. The Green Lantern isn’t explicitly shown.

Superman & Lois showrunners clarify the show’s connection to the Arrowverse while addressing chances of Grant Gustin’s The Flash making a cameo.

However, when that show was canceled, it created an open-ended gap in the story that will now never be filled. Who was going to be the Green Lantern, and which Green Lantern would have made their live-action TV debut. With so many versions of the character in the comics, there were plenty of options for whom the show could build the story around, but now it remains an unanswerable mystery.

7 What Comes Next For Ryan Choi?

Ryan Choi in Crisis on Infinite Earths

The Paragons play a pivotal role in saving the multiverse. The Monitor recruits several of the mightiest heroes from across all the multiverse in order to create the ultimate group of heroes. Figures that represent the best of love, hope, truth, honor, and more. But among them, there was one individual who stood out for their uniquely inextraordinary qualities. Ryan Choi is an ordinary human, but apparently, he is the Paragon of Humanity.

When the heroes arrive to recruit him, Ryan immediately chooses to go to his family, but not before acknowledging that he is familiar with Ray Palmer’s scientific work. As it turns out, Ryan Choi in the comics goes on to become the Atom after Ray Palmer. While in the Arrowverse, Ryan is aware of Palmer, and likely capable of filling his shoes as the next Atom, nothing is shown to suggest this will happen. So does Ryan just go home?

Why An Arrow Movie Never Happened: The Real Reason Explained By Stephen Amell

Arrowverse star Stephen Amell reveals that an Arrow movie was very close to happening for the franchise before it was ultimately cancelled.

Fortunately, when the Crisis event is resolved, Superman and Lois are brought back, but surprisingly, they learn that they now have sons, plural. This was likely an allusion to the Superman & Lois series that has since been released, but the sons in that show are teenagers, and it appears that Superman and Lois led a very different life to the one depicted in the Arrowverse. So, while it is likely it was just a playful way to hint at the new show, it was never made clear if this was actually what changed for Superman and Lois in the Arrowverse, or why.

5 How Lex Luthor Became A Hero?

Lex Luthor attempts to kill all Supermen during Crisis On Infinite Earths

Lex Luthor plays a bit of a trickster throughout the Crisis crossover. Initially, he steals The Book of Destiny, and uses it to track down and kill Superman in every universe. However, he grows tired of this, and decides to use one Superman to kill others. Later, he even uses the power of the book to swap himself in the position of the Paragon of Truth, and he uses his enormous intellect to help save the Universe, and grant himself incredible powers.

But, after the multiverse is restored, Lex appears to have changed the world once again and made himself a hero. Nobody except the Paragons remember a version of history where Lex is anything less than a hero, and he is widely praised. While it’s likely Lex did this through the power of the book, its never clear how he did any of it. To swap himself in as the Paragon of Truth, he simply scribbled out Superman’s name, and put himself in.

4 What Made Kevin Conroy’s Batman Cross The Line?

Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne aka Batman in Crisis on Infinite Earths

Kevin Conroy has long been one of the most famous actors to be cast as Batman, but until he made his live-action debut as the character in Crisis on Infinite Earths, he was exclusively a voice actor for the hero. However, this version of Batman was much darker, and broken down by his lengthy career as the Gotham Guardian. At some point, this version of Bruce Wayne decided not to pull his punches, and he began killing his enemies.

Traditionally, this is strictly against Batman’s personal moral code, and its a departure from other versions. While he says that the villains were willing to kill, and tragedies occurred, it is never made clear what the inciting incident was behind this Bruce Wayne crossing the line. But once he did, he went all in, and began killing many of his rivals and taking trophies after their deaths. He even killed Superman.

3 How Does Earth Prime Actually Work?

The Justice League from the Arrowverse

Again, with the resolution of the Multiverse, many things are changed for the heroes, with one of the biggest changes being the creation of Earth Prime. At least several of the worlds that were featured, primarily including the Paragon’s multiple worlds, and that of Black Lightning, were knitted together to become Earth Prime. With more of the greatest heroes from the multiverse living side by side, it makes sense for the characters in terms of team ups, but it feels like an odd development overall.

It is never made clear why this happens, what worlds were selected to be combined, and what happens to humans where this may be a conflict. There could potentially be billions more people suddenly living on Earth, with no homes. If not this, then billions of versions of people may have been wiped from reality. It’s unclear and kind of terrifying to think about.

2 How Does History Work With Multiple Realities Combining?

In addition, like with Lex’s history being altered, it appears that history in general has been changed. Presumably, there is a whole new narrative for how, why, when, and what happens in history. But the Paragons remain aware of their own individual pasts. How do they connect to the new false history? Is everyone else living a lie?

It just feels like a really bizarre way to conclude a story with reality now being built on a lie. It appears almost certain that there will be countless people whose lives are profoundly changed and that doesn’t really feel like a win. On the other hand, if Earth Prime is a new world that the heroes have all been transported to, are there old worlds now missing a hero to keep them safe?

1 Will Future Characters Like Nora Allen Exist Again?

In The Flash, Barry Allen had been working towards what appeared to be his inevitable disappearance. Barry was terrified to be taken from his beloved Iris, and when a mysterious girl named Nora enters his life, he discovers that this is actually his and Iris’ daughter. Nora is like her father in many ways, down to her selfless heroism, and in one adventure, with the Crisis event being moved up and Barry’s date of disappearance advancing by five years, Nora Allen disappears from reality.

Now, Barry has managed to avoid his ultimate demise and disappearance in Crisis, so does that mean Nora will be born? It seemed like because Barry was due to disappear sooner, he would not have been around to have a child with Iris. But now, Barry and Iris have a future together, and there is no reason that they can’t have children. If that is the case, it would make sense for Nora Allen to be born, and even grow up with both of her parents in her life in the future of the Arrowverse.
