Summary
- Paramount+ provides a range of original series, like Yellowstone, and family-friendly content, with new episodes being added regularly, making it a mix of old and new.
- A new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Series arrives.
- Modern classics like Pulp Fiction and more arrive on Paramount+ in August.
Paramount+ has plenty of new TV shows and movies coming in August 2024, including docuseries and family favorites. Paramount+ launched in March 2021 as a rebranding of the CBS All Access streaming platform, with the goal of expanding its offerings and reach. Thanks to the re-merger between CBS and Viacom in 2019, Paramount+ also has access to Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and MTV libraries. That usually means that library content is more exciting for subscribers than new content because they can binge existing series.
Unlike some of its competitors, Paramount+ has not put an emphasis on original movie programming except in the case of children’s films. However, the streaming service does have a popular lineup of exclusive original series, including the multiple-timeline and decade-spanning Yellowstone franchise. In August 2024, however, the biggest content for the streamer continued to be series originally available from CBS like Criminal Minds, Blue Bloods, and NCIS.

The 30 Best TV Shows On Paramount+ (August 2024)
Paramount+ has come a long way from its humble beginnings as CBS All Access – as the stellar lineup of the 30 best shows on Paramount+ proves.
The Best Movies And Shows Coming To Paramount+ This Month
Erin Brockovich – August 1
Erin Brockovich was huge for the career of Julia Roberts, but real events also inspire the story. The titular character, played by Roberts, worked in a law office that took on a huge corporation that was poisoning the water of a small town with the chemical run-off and making the residents sick. Brockovich was instrumental in meeting the residents affected, researching the case, and getting the law firm to take the case to begin with.
While parts of the story are likely streamlined to fit into a neat narrative for a movie, the bulk of the story and Brockovich’s help in getting financial compensation for the families affected, is real. The movie marked a huge turning point for Roberts since she was largely known best for romantic comedies at the time. It earned her her first Oscar, but she also received a Golden Globe and Critics Choice award for the role.
Miss Congeniality – August 1
Like Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock is known for her fair share of romantic comedies, but she’s also mixed up her acting resume with plenty of dramas and real-life portrayals as well. The two have had very similar career trajectories, so it makes sense that a great Bullock movie would be added to Paramount+ at the same time as a Roberts one. In this case, however, Miss Congeniality is definitely a comedy.
While there is a dash of romance, the bigger story is the bonding of the women in the movie. Bullock stars as an FBI agent who has to infiltrate a beauty pageant as a contestant to figure out who is planning on attacking it. As someone who looks down on pageants in general, she initially finds it difficult to blend in, but she grows to actually like and become friends with the other women throughout the process. It’s a great action-comedy, but also a great way to highlight female friendships.
Pulp Fiction – August 1
Pulp Fiction might be one of Quentin Tarantino’s earliest movies, but it’s also considered to be his best. Despite his numerous other films that have explored other characters, it’s Pulp Fiction that people point to as the best example of his style and one with the best script.
The movie follows four different stories of crime and violence that cross over with a cast that includes John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, and Uma Thurman. It has what’s become seen as the perfect blend of humor and violence and influenced a lot of the crime and action movies that have come after it.
The movie won the Palme d’Or at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival and it was added to the US National Film Registry in 2013. It regularly appears in “best of” lists, and Entertainment Weekly even named it as their best movie made after 1983 when they compiled their own list in 2008.
The Faculty – August 1
There are a lot of movies that take inspiration from Invasion of the Body Snatchers (which also joins Paramount+ this month), but The Faculty is one of the few that recognizes the events of the story are actually like something out of a horror novel. The characters are well aware that they wouldn’t be friends if the truth of the alien invasion in their small town hadn’t bonded them together.
With Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett, and Jordana Brewster as part of the ensemble, the movie sees a group of high schoolers from very different social groups realize that the teachers at their school have all been taken over by a parasitic alien species. They try to fight back, but members of their group are slowly taken over themselves. The movie has a great balance of humor and action, and the audience is taken for quite a fun ride.
Training Day – August 1
It’s rare for Denzel Washington to play a villain in one of his movies, and that might be part of the reason that Training Day has remained so beloved since its original release. Washington is electric in the role of a dirty cop intent on keeping himself alive during a particularly brutal day at work.
Ethan Hawke is equally adept as the ambitious police officer assigned to work with him for the day who finds himself in more and more risky situations as the day goes on. Hawke was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the movie while Washington won one. Both actors were also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for their work.
Training Day is often seen as ahead of its time as corruption within the Los Angeles Police Department hadn’t yet been exposed as fully at the time of the movie’s release.
Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – August 9
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are always a crowd-pleasing group of superheroes. There’s something that just works about a group of turtles growing up in a sewer that become superheroes. There have been several incarnations of the turtles in comics, movies, and television, but this latest series spins out of the movie Mutant Mayhem.
The series was actually announced in 2023 with an immediate two-season order, exciting those who enjoyed the newest animated movie. The series is expected to be set between the movie and its planned sequel. The main cast of the movie reprise their roles for the series.
The first arc of the show is set to see the turtles separated and having to stand on their own. All of the episodes for the arc will drop on the same day.
Additional content is available to those Paramount+ subscribers who have the Showtime add-on as well. Television shows from Paramount-owned networks continue airing new episodes in August. Once they do, new episodes of the shows will also be available to stream on Paramount+ the day after they air, making August 2024 an even busier month than July for the streamer. Paramount also adds live sporting and news coverage regularly. The content available depends on the playing schedules.
