Abilities in Spiritfarer are unlocked at different shrines throughout the game world. Some areas are blocked off until Stella has gained a certain ability, and some abilities are unavailable until players have properly upgraded Stella’s ship. While there is the best order to get abilities in Spiritfarer, it’s likely players will unlock the majority of them through simple exploration.
One of the best indie games of 2020, Spiritfarer is a game where players take Stella’s ship on an adventure while also doing some management on the side. The game has been compared to Animal Crossing, but part of where it differs is the abilities that players will unlock for Stella as the game goes along. You will be able to perform several acrobatics by the time you have unlocked every shrine, and players will earn The Acrobat trophy/achievement for doing so.

Aluminum is an important resource in Spiritfarer that players must collect to craft certain buildings. Here are the locations that Stella can find it.

Coordinates & How To Find More Obols
At each shrine in Spiritfarer Stella visits, 2 Obols are required as an offering. Some shrines are accessible before the player has acquired the needed Obols, which are obtained each time a new spirit boards Stella’s ship. Once the necessary Obols are found, players can travel to the following shrine locations to get every ability in Spiritfarer:
Spiritfarer Ability |
Shrine Location |
---|---|
Double Jump |
(X:39, Y:139) |
Glide |
(X:-150, Y:67) |
Zipline |
(X:-3, Y:185) |
Bounce |
(X:233, Y:18) |
Dash |
(X: 216, Y: 96) |
Light Burst |
(X:-185, Y:-92) |
Improved Tools |
(X:220, Y:167) |
To get a visual of each Shrine location, you can check out YouTuber UntilTammaro‘s video. In some cases, it will be necessary to find other spirits to join Stella in order to have enough Obols to redeem at the shrines and unlock Spiritfarer’s abilities. You can get Obols in a few other ways as well, which are listed in the table below:
Obol Locations |
Number of Obols |
Source |
---|---|---|
From most Spirits |
1 each |
|
From the Bruce & Mickey Spirit |
2 |
Southpoint Docks: Must fully upgrade their house to receive both Obols. |
Bought From Shop |
1 |
Edgeborough Lane; Purchase for: 2000 Glim |
From Hades |
1 |
Deliver 8 Spirits (with Bruce & Micket counting as one) |
From Giovanni |
1 |
Complete his questline and arrive at Greymist Peaks |
If you fulfill all of these, you will get 18 Obols, meaning you will have four more than the number you need to finish all the Shrines. This means you may not have to find every Spirit and have them board your boat to achieve it. With that in mind, the specifics of each shrine are detailed below.
Spiritfarer’s Double Jump Ability
Hummingberg Shrine [X:39 Y:139]
The first ability Stella learns, Double Jump, is accessible at the Hummingberg shrine early in the game. The island has a grand city, and you can explore most of it and find the Shrine quite easily. Because you do not have many abilities unlocked, you need only walk up to it. As the name implies, players can click the jump button twice to get an extra leap to reach higher surfaces.
This will be quite important immediately, as there are two areas in Hummingberg that contain chests that can only be reached after unlocking the Shrine. By completing Gwen’s tasks in Spiritfarer and eventually having Atul board the boat, Stella can redeem her first two Obols in Hummingberg to unlock this feature.
Spiritfarer’s Glide Ability
Furogawa Shrine [X:-150 Y:67]
Taking a little inspiration from Link, Spiritfarer’s Glide ability allows Stella to use her giant hat like a parachute by holding the jump button in the air. Not only will she be able to slowly glide down long distances, but can also glide skywards when there is an upward current of air present. To get Glide in Spiritfarer, head to the shrine in Furogawa.
You will not need special abilities to reach this Shrine, as you can follow the path through the small village to get to it. This is again important, as every single chest inside Furogawa will require you to use the Glide ability to get to it in some way. This is because one chest needs a key that can be found inside a different chest that does require Glide, but it can otherwise be walked up to. It will also open up a lot of other exploration abilities down the line.
Spiritfarer’s Zipline Ability
Nordweiler Shrine [X:-3 Y: 185]
Players can unlock the Zipline ability in Nordweiler north of the map. Stella’s ship in Spiritfarer will need to be upgraded enough via Albert’s Shipyard to break through ice to reach the region. You will need the Double Jump ability to get to the Shrine, but that should not be an issue at this point in the game.
Once unlocked, when a glowing line is connected by two posts, players can hold the “up” button to slide across quickly to either side. From there, the island will require every ability you have learned to complete. One chest is easier to get if you come back after finding the Dash ability, but it can be reached without it. This chest is nearly directly below the shrine, which will require you to first Glide and then Double Jump at the end.

Spiritfarer DLC Trailer Introduces Final Two New Characters
Spiritfarer developer Thunder Lotus Games has announced a December 13th release date for their final DLC with a trailer that details new characters.
Spiritfarer’s Bounce Ability
Oxbury Shrine [X: 233 Y:18]
Not to be confused with Double Jump, the special Spiritfarer ability Bounce allows Stella to jump higher on certain bouncy surfaces like umbrellas or garbage dumps. This shrine is located in Oxbury and also requires the ship upgrade for smashing through rocks. This is quite a large city-like area, and the Shrine is located in the middle.
While the Bounce ability is a little confusing to master at first, what players need to do is hold the jump button right before landing on a bouncy surface for a higher jump. Continuously doing this allows for higher bounces. There are several places where you can practice it in the city itself, including one chest that requires it to be able to reach it.
Spiritfarer’s Dash Ability
Greymist Peaks Shrine [X:216 Y:96]
Spiritfarer’s Dash ability requires all previous abilities (though Zipline is optional) to get it. The Dash Shrine in Spiritfarer is located at Greymist Peaks Island in the Northeast portion of the map, and players will need an upgraded ship to get through rocks and fog to reach this location. Once on Greymist Peaks Island, Stella can glide upwards via the air geysers and bounce on tents to reach it.
Still having trouble finding the Dash Shrine in Spiritfarer? Check out the video walkthrough from Jacob Bellamay on YouTube below!
In Spiritfarer Dash allows Stella to quickly zoom in the air by holding down LT/Left Shift when jumping, but does require a slight cool down before using it again.
Spiritfarer’s Light Burst Ability
Hidden Shrine [X: -185 Y: -92]
After receiving the Bounce ability, Stella can head over to the Hikarishima Lighthouse (X:-137, Y: -14) to find another of Spiritfarer’s spirit characters. His quests, called Demon of Light, will eventually lead the player to the Hidden Shrine to unlock Light Burst – a rupture of energy emitting from the Everlight. Once at the location, you only have to do a little jumping to get to the Shrine.
By pressing R2/Q, Stella can make a radius of light that can reach all around her. This ability is mainly used in conjunction with specific items, usually by request or by an event. It is required to fulfill Buck’s requests and questline. You will have to wait for it to recharge after every use.
The Lost Shrine [X: 220 Y:167]
To access the Improved Tools ability shrine, players must have their ship upgraded to get through fog. A Treasure Map obtained from Francis near the end of the game will have the coordinates for the Lost Shrine. This ability improves mining and fishing, so tools don’t break as easily. Players can also receive gemstones while mining with this ability.
Sometimes, after acquiring certain abilities, like Zipline and Glide, Albert will give out blueprints so players can place structures on their ship to use these abilities while aboard. Strategically placed structures make some mini-games on the ship, like catching Spiritfarer’s lightning or bright jelly, much easier. Having all abilities in Spiritfarer allows for more seamless maneuvering throughout the game.
